Creating a Professional Image for Your Catering Business

Catering can be a very competitive industry because there is no shortage of caterers. However, on the other hand there are many that don’t stand the test of time. This could be attributed to many reasons such as the long hours, hard working weekends, quality of meals deteriorates, and sheer workload. Caterers can be successful if their business model is planned and executed well.

One of the important factors that help a caterer with gaining new business via word of mouth and repeat business is that of creating a professional image. Caterers deal with food and catering equipment so they are expected to have immaculate organisation skills and impeccable hygiene practices. Chefwear and staff uniforms create a neat image of the catering company. Staff that wear uniforms and chefs that wear chef jackets and hats will look professional. Chefwear is designed with a neat cut, strong material (usually cotton) and in white to indicate cleanliness or black to indicate sophistication.

The waiters can wear a tuxedo apron. The cut is unique with a low v-neck that comes together as a halterneck above the shoulders. The design is black which looks sophisticated and will be particularly suited for wedding receptions.

Kitchen staff can wear full bib aprons. These aprons have a flattering cut and curved pockets. This elegant styling with all the kitchen staff wearing the same apron will create a uniform look. If your client walks into the kitchen they will see a team working together as a unity. To avoid any stray hairs from finding their way into the food, a chef’s hat or skull cap will tie in with the professional image as well as have a purpose.

The chefs should usually stand out as they are the ones in charge of the kitchen. A basic chef’s jacket with long sleeves looks professional and tidy. You have the option of choosing a black or white jacket. If you want to stick to the black uniform, then a black chef’s jacket will be perfect. Alternatively, if you want the chef to be distinguishable amongst the kitchen staff and waiters, then a white chef’s jacket will be ideal. Lastly, a chef should have a chef’s hat to complete the professional image.

As a caterer that wants to increase their business, you have to not only prepare the best food around with the best catering equipment but your team also needs to look the part and you must offer the best customer service.
