SAFE Joins D.C. Student Sustainability Network

Students Advancing Food Equity (Protected), a campus firm focused to combating meals insecurity, joined forces with other Georgetown University and D.C. university student corporations to build the D.C. Scholar Sustainability Community (DCSSC), which aims to centralize environmental activism in Washington, D.C. 

DCSSC, led by City Beet, an corporation that combats meals insecurity by building gardens in underserved D.C. communities, is a community for corporations and individuals fascinated in local climate justice, agriculture, sustainability and food items security. 

Customers of DCSSC hope to consolidate environmental activism attempts to realize a better impact, according to Urban Beet Director of Outreach and Communications Stephanie Munn. 

“With the DCSSC we intention to build a collaborative virtual space in which we can share thoughts, occasions, and methods,” Munn wrote in an e-mail to The Hoya. “While we hope that this group self-generates material by means of posts, as we expand, we program to host speaker panels and networking gatherings on subject areas of fascination for the learners. DCSSC is open up to all Georgetown college students, and intrigued folks can be part of through a Fb site.

Georgetown Renewable Electrical power and Environmental Network (Eco-friendly) is also participating in DCSSC in an energy to broaden on Georgetown’s new environmental initiatives, like the Earth Commons Institute, a system for the analyze of environmental stewardship and sustainability, according to Mark Kuo (COL ’24), treasurer of Inexperienced and co-guide of the Georgetown neighborhood backyard.

The community also gives a way to streamline collaboration between various college student groups, according to Munn.

The collaboration in between DCSSC and Safe will be mutually effective, in accordance to Rosamond.
