Our favorite easy, one-bowl, no-mixer cakes, perfect for celebrating any Fall occasion. You’ll “Fall” in love with this collection of cake recipes!

If you’ve been following The Café for any amount of time, you probably realize that we’re all about EASY, DELICIOUS recipes that don’t take much time to put together, like this Ridiculously Easy Peanut Butter Texas Sheet Cake.

It wasn’t always that way though. When I started this blog (back in 2011) I shared lots of different types of recipes… from main dishes to salads to desserts, jams, jellies and lots of things in between. I have to admit that when I look back, many of those recipes were, what I would now call, “a labor of love”.

“Labor of love”, is a nice way of saying that they could take a LONG time, require lots of equipment and result in a BIG mess in the kitchen. But, a few years into the blog, I learned a wonderful lesson.

It was actually a lesson that would be life-changing (well, at least in a culinary/blog sense). And, the funny thing is, it was pretty much by accident. This is how it came about…

Scott and I were planning a trip to France and I had done some research on French recipes. I found a wonderful, super easy cake recipe that had a delightful history. It was (reportedly) an age-old favorite of grandmothers all over France because of its simplicity and the fact that it required just one bowl and no mixer. When I tried the famous French cake recipe, we all fell in love with it. The cake was moist, tender-crumbed and super delish.

I shared the recipe while we were on the trip to France… and the rest is history. For a fun, whimsical name, I called it my “French Grandmother’s Lemon Yogurt Cake”. The recipe immediately went crazy with our readers, brought lots of new followers and quickly became one of the most popular recipes on the blog.

The immediate and long-term popularity of this simple cake recipe got me thinking. I realized that most people have super busy lives and don’t have the time to make elaborate, multi-step desserts that take hours to complete and require special equipment. You know, the recipes that start with “In the bowl of an electric stand mixer, combine…”. And then “beat for 5 minutes until soft and fluffy”, followed by something like, “add the wet and dry ingredients separately, mixing well after each addition”.

Wow, if you could make a really delicious cake, with just one bowl and a whisk or a wooden spoon, why in the world go through all that extra effort? So it became a mission… to discover and create super easy, crazy delicious desserts with minimal effort.

As time went on, this goal spread beyond desserts but that’s another story, a Ridiculously Easy story, for another day…
